Why an Educational Evaluation?

Why an educational evaluation? Some students struggle with specific aspects of learning, no matter how hard they study or how many extra tutoring sessions they attend. Parents and teachers may wonder whether a student has a learning disability or processing impairment that is significant enough to meet criteria for a learning disorder. Some students have difficulty with reading (dyslexia), mathematics (dyscalculia), and/or written expression (dysgraphia). Testing for learning disorders is available in Kansas City. A Learning Disorder Evaluation completed with Dr. Bloom determines the presence of a learning disorder, the type of processing impairment involved, as well as the need for educational interventions such as classroom and testing accommodations. Even a very bright student can have a learning disorder and may benefit from accurate diagnosis and appropriate learning interventions to reach his or her true potential. When students with a learning disorder need special testing accommodations for college entrance exams (e.g. ACT or SAT), they are frequently required to have a Learning Disorder Evaluation completed using standardized educational tests.

Identifying Intellectually Gifted Students: In order to participate in gifted and enrichment programming most school districts in the Greater Kansas City area require a standardized evaluation that involves a valid measure of a student’s overall intelligence (IQ).  Contact Dr. Bloom for IQ testing at (816) 926-0642.
