Neuropsychological Testing

Neuropsychological test results

Why Neuropsychological Testing? During the normal aging process our brain’s capabilities change. Although we have accumulated vast wisdom and knowledge through our lifetime, it may now take longer to remember the name of an old friend or familiar object. When older adults have trouble recalling information, even if it is something considered minor, they sometimes worry that they are developing symptoms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s Disorder. When you or your loved one is experiencing changes in memory, language, or concentration that seem excessive it is best to share your concerns with your primary physician. There are many reasons why someone may experience memory, concentration, or language difficulties and your physician is best suited to help identify possible causes. Your physician may ask to you participate in neuropsychological testing to rule-out a dementia process or gain insight into the nature of your memory challenges (pseudodementia). Neuropsychological testing completed with Dr. Bloom provides an accurate measure of your memory and concentration skills using standardized tests that are appropriate for your age. This information, along with treatment recommendations, is shared with your treating physician.
